Flow is easy to install thanks to the dry coupling system on both boards and tiles. You will be able to install quickly and easily, without the use of glues.

PRIOR TO INSTALLATION

Before installing Flow flooring, it is important to follow a few simple precautions to ensure optimum results. First, store the material in a dry place, ensuring that the packaging is intact and the flooring is placed on a flat surface. Before you start laying, take time to acclimatise the material for at least 48 hours at a constant temperature of between 18°C and 25°C. When you are ready to proceed with laying, make sure that the fixtures are installed correctly and that the plaster is dry. Only at this point can you remove the boards from the packaging and begin the floor installation. Please note that during installation, it is important to keep the room temperature within the recommended range. Significant variations outside this temperature range could make the laying process more complex.

You can use Flow on underfloor heating systems without any problems as long as the floor surface temperature does not exceed 27°C (or 60 W/m2).  If you are using non-traditional heating systems, we recommend that you contact the manufacturer of the heating system to check compatibility with Flow.

For cooling systems, you must consider the supply temperature of the water used, which must not fall below the dew point. This is important to prevent the formation of condensation on the floor, which could cause damage and compromise the life of the floor.

Flow can be installed over different types of existing flooring, such as wood, PVC or concrete floors. It is not possible to lay Flow on carpet, which will have to be removed. Before laying, ensure that the subfloor is smooth, dry, clean and stable. There must be no irregularities and the maximum permissible height difference per metre of floor is 3 millimetres. If it exceeds this limit, it will be necessary to level the subfloor. Use a 200 micron vapour barrier (nylon). Just lay it on the subfloor, with an overlap of 20 centimetres at the edges, which should be sealed with tape. This will help protect the floor from any moisture-related problems.

  • If the subfloor is concrete, first check the moisture content using a carbide hygrometer. The moisture content of the subfloor must not exceed 2% for quick-drying screeds, 1.7% for heating screeds and only 0.2% for anhydrite screeds.
  • If the subfloor is composed of tiles, check for moisture. And remember that the edges of the Flow boards should never coincide with the grout lines of the tiles underneath. If the grout lines are rather narrow (i.e. not more than 5 millimetres), it is not necessary to fill them with a levelling agent, but be careful of raised or protruding edges as they may become visible on the floor surface over time.
  • If, on the other hand, the subfloor is made of wood, make sure it is perfectly level and fasten any loose parts with screws. Finally, check the existing wood floor for insect infestations.

No, do not use underlays in addition to the one integrated in Flow. Flow is designed to offer excellent sound-absorbent quality thanks to the underlay already pre-installed in the floor, which guarantees maximum comfort and a considerable reduction in foot traffic noise.

Flow flooring is designed for floating installation. Leave sufficient space (8 mm) between the floor and all walls, or any fixed object, so that the floor can move in any direction. It must be neither nailed nor screwed to the subfloor. In addition, please note that expansion joints are required if individual rooms are larger than 20 x 20 m. Expansion joints are also necessary in the case of extremely narrow and long rooms. Do not exceed a length of 20 m. Expansion joints are also needed under door openings and between separate subfloor heating circles. These joints will help divide the floor into different sections, allowing temperature variations to be managed and preventing damage or deformation. Remember not to block joints and thresholds to the floor, otherwise they may interfere with the normal expansion of the boards. If you need to drill holes in the floor, e.g. to install wall fixtures, make sure you drill a hole at least 10 mm larger than the rawlplug so as not to compromise the stability of the floor.

When you are about to install Flow, remember to check all the boards thoroughly. In the very unlikely event that any boards present defects they must be discarded. These checks must be performed both before and during installation and in optimal lighting conditions. For a uniform aesthetic result, mix boards from different packages. In this way, you can keep tone variations between different parts of the floor to a minimum.

When laying, take care not to concentrate large weights in small areas of the floor; distribute the weight evenly to avoid stability and deformation problems.

If you are installing the floor near windows, consider that light rays passing through the windows can create a lens effect that could overheat the floor. Flow is designed to provide excellent stability up to a temperature of 80°C, with maximum expansion of 0.05-0.06%, this ensures a reliable and durable floor covering, even under normal thermal conditions.

Before starting the installation, establish the direction of the boards and measure the room precisely. In this way, the arrangement of the boards will be well-proportioned and the end result will be uniform. If the first row of the boards needs to be cut lengthwise, make sure that the minimum width is no less than 5 cm. This will ensure better stability and a more uniform appearance.

When making cuts, keep the side with the décor facing upwards to get a clear view of the design and to obtain precise, clean cuts.

Installation instructions

For the first board in the first row, place a spacer of an appropriate thickness on the left and lay the board against the wall. Afterwards, after laying at least 3 rows of boards, you can easily position the flooring against the front wall using spacers.

Now move on to the second board of the first row by gently placing it at the short end of the first board. To fit the board correctly, lower it starting from the corner closest to the previous row and bend it towards the centre, then continue on the opposite long side. Finally, press lightly along the newly installed short end. Continue in this way and when you have finished the first row, place a spacer on the wall and measure the length required to cut the board correctly.

For the second row, place a spacer against the left wall and ensure that the minimum length of the first board is at least 400 mm.

It is important to maintain a minimum distance between the heads of the boards in parallel rows, which is never less than 1/3 of the total length of the board. This will help achieve a uniform appearance and a well-balanced installation.

Gently place the second board of the second row next to the short end of the previous one and fold it down in a single movement. This will allow you to fit them in securely and precisely.

Once you have completed the second or third row, be sure to adjust the distance to the front wall by positioning the spacers. This will help you maintain an even margin and avoid future problems.

The last row, or sometimes also the first, must have a minimum width of 50 mm. Place a spacer against the wall before measuring. You can use a simple measuring instrument, such as a piece of wood with a hole in it, to mark the panel while holding the instrument against the wall. Finally, cut the panels lengthwise, including the flexible tabs.

Download the complete installation instructions for Flow, which is also found inside each product package.

Drill holes twice as large as the diameter of the pipes. With a box cutter, remove a piece of the board so that it can be laid around the pipes. Put the panel on one side of the pipes and the removed piece on the other side.

If you cannot tilt the board, you can remove the vertical joint tooth with a chisel. Apply glue to the horizontal tongue of the joint and join the boards horizontally. Place some spacers between the last board and the wall.

To disassemble the floor, separate the entire row by carefully lifting it and releasing it from the previous one. Bend the whole row and clear the long side. Then, dismantle the boards in the row by sliding the short ends horizontally. Never bend the board at the head, to avoid damaging the joint.

Maintenance and cleaning

Flow flooring is easy to clean and maintain. For routine cleaning, we recommend Woodco Care’s antistatic and bactericidal LVT CLEANER: a perfect product to keep your floor clean and hygienic without any difficulty.

To best care for your Flow floor and keep it in perfect condition over time, here are some valuable tips:

  1. At the entrance of the house, place a welcome mat, but be sure to avoid rubber ones. Choose a mat that is large enough to absorb dirt and moisture, thus protecting the floor from external elements.
  2. Protect your furniture and heavy objects by fitting felt pads under the feet to prevent scratches and damage to the floor when moving objects.
  3. In office areas where caster chairs are present, we recommend the use of a protective floor covering. This small measure will help keep the floor intact even in these high-traffic areas.
  4. For daily cleaning, you can use a vacuum cleaner or anti-static cloths to remove dust and dirt accumulated during the day.
  5. For a more thorough weekly cleaning, opt for neutral, non-foaming detergents; avoid abrasive or aggressive cleaners, such as those containing ammonia, as they may damage the floor. We suggest you use Woodco Care LVT CLEANER, a Woodco Care product, which is especially suitable for this type of floor.
  6. When cleaning the floor, use two buckets: one with the neutral detergent and the other to rinse the cloth, this will help prevent dirt from being brought back onto the floor during cleaning.
  7. When cleaning, be sure to use a damp cloth and avoid the accumulation of water on the floor. Always dry the floor thoroughly to prevent moisture damage.
  8. One last important recommendation: avoid using steam machines to clean Flow because it may cause damage to the floor.
